Flooding rains likely across parts of Mississippi
Widespread heavy rains and embedded thunderstorms on top of already saturated soils from recent rains over the past week will likely lead to flooding across parts of the state.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch until midnight tonight across Central and portions of Southern Mississippi, covering 47 out of 82 counties.
The flood watch includes Adams, Attala, Bolivar, Carroll, Choctaw, Claiborne, Clarke, Clay, Copiah, Covington, Forrest, Franklin, Grenada, Hinds, Holmes, Humphreys, Issaquena, Jasper, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lamar, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Leake, Leflore, Lincoln, Lowndes, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Neshoba, Newton, Noxubee, Oktibbeha, Rankin, Scott, Sharkey, Simpson, Smith, Sunflower, Warren, Washington, Webster, Winston and Yazoo.
A low pressure system is expected to track across Southern Mississippi by tonight, aiding in persistent rains and repeated thunderstorms. Widespread rainfall amounts of two to three inches is likely with locally higher amounts up to five inches possible.
